There are a lot of steep climbs.Easy to walk, easily marked paths, with minimal slopes. I've only been up here in the off season, but there's a few camping places and local munchie places that look like they'd be jumping in the summer.No matter the season, the Woodpecker Nature Trail is one of my most favorite places to hike in the Eastern Iowa Area. Woodpecker Singletrack Trail Grand Opening - CANCELLED due to flood damage Thursday, June 6, 2019 Celebrate the opening of the newest segment of the Coralville Woodpecker Singletrack Trail. Part of the trail takes you by a big building which kind of takes away the wilderness feeling. This is pretty nice trail, I hiked it on a muddy day after a rain with an old pair of trail running shoes, which made it kind of lame. The trail is good for all skill levels and is primarily used for hiking, trail running, and nature trips. Mountain bikes have also made the trail rutted in places as they do. Absolutely on my favorites list.Hiked with my 1 year old on my back. There are several different paths and the scenery is beautiful as it wraps around a lake.
Felt like being on our river bottom back home, it's crazy to think I was still in town as it didn't feel like I was most of the way!

Woodpecker has quickly become one of our favorite trails in the area. Not terrible, but noticeable and made for a lot of standing water on the trail. Woodpecker Trail and Squire Point offer a great trail system with plenty of routes to explore.
Prepare to get your feet wet at one crossing. You will go out of the woods a bit for a nice jaunt through the prairie where alot of tree restoration is going on. This trail head is located on the drive down to the Coralville Reservoir. Woodpecker Singletrack, nat- ural surface trails are located east of the Trailhead on Camp Cardinal Boulevard. I definitely recommend going when the weather is nicer, otherwise prepare for mud. However it makes up for it with a lovely wooden walkway over some marsh land. Woodpecker East Loop is a 3.4 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Coralville, Iowa that offers the chance to see wildlife. Recommend going the opposite way from the signed one way.
