Although the Rotring 600 looks amazing.
As yet, I've only the 925 25-09 and 25-20 but will surely be getting the 07 and perhaps the 05.The Rotring 600 is the best of these, but the others can leave my house.Thanks for the great feedback, I looked into the 925. It's a very coarse knurl. Both are technically full-sized pens, but the Rapid Pro is a good deal larger. Currently I have Kuru Toga and a Tul mechanical.The 600 seems to have universally high reviews but I am apprehensive about its lack of a retracting tip. The Rotring 600 is a considerably smaller pen. What are your thoughts on that pencil?I have the 800 in 0.7 and carry it around in a pocket fairly often. In my opinion, I prefer the Rapid Pro. Typically the Rotring 600 is a great performer, but it is on the small side so writing for extended periods can be uncomfortable. It’s just not — and never will be — the iconic pen that the Rotring 600 ballpoint is. The two pens vary considerably in size and weight.
It weighs a reasonable 25.3 grams. Both the Rotring 600 and the Waterman are better built than the Rapid Pro, which consists of a metal grip and plastic with a thin metal housing.

Rotring probably lost all their talented designers back when the company was sold, that I even doubt that the newer Rapid Pro was designed by germans. If Rotring could update the 800's internal mechanism, with all metal construction, no lead breakages, no tip wooble, better click feedback mechanism and add a lead indicator (like the 600G), it would be the perfect mechanical pencil.I have a Rapid Pro and it has been awesome for me. I like it quite a bit, and the retraction mechanism is undeniably cool.
Or try a TWSBI Precision Retractable (its heavily inspirated on the 800 without tip wobble). I'm looking to get a new pencil that will be used heavily (20+ hours per week) for writing and carried in a backpack. I also quite like the Staedtler 925 25 series. Hows the mechanism? What I don't like about the Kerry is looks, I like pencils for the aesthetic in addition to performance.I've a 600 and like it very much. This is pretty annoying, so you might need to try a few refills. The Rapid Pro feels much larger but also more comfortable — it gives you more to hold, grip is wider, and the edges on the hexagonal barrel are rounded.In most ways the Rapid Pro is the better performing, better writing, pen. I like it but it looks more like a surgical instrument and I'd imagine the thin grip would lead to strain over long periods of writing.I'd reccomend HB if its for notes honestly, unless you particularly prefer softer or lighter lead. The 1000 is a bit top heavy, which may contribute to the grip discomfort.I didn't bought a Rapid Pro because of the bad design compared to the 600 and 800. I've not tried the Rapid Pro, but the two 800s I wrote with had some wobble; for me, that's a deal-breaker.I just got a Zebra M-701; solid, all metal exterior, hefty, and with a nicely cross-hatched grip. If you're carrying your pencil in your pocket, get the Rapid Pro. I have only had it for a couple weeks and only use it for drafting figures and occasional notes, though.I previously used a graph gear 1000 for like 6 years, including a lot of engineering homework. Despite Rotring having discontinued its coveted fountain pens, the mechanical pencils are still relatively easy to find. That said the Rapid Pro was generally the cheaper of the two, but throughout 2019 the Rotring 600 got cheaper and cheaper, making it almost always more affordable than the Rapid Pro.The Rotring 600 does have a lot of price fluctuations when not sold through official dealers, so if you aren’t in a rush, you can save a fair bit.One thing to note here is that the Rotring 600 can have some tip rattle with some refills. I personally use Pentel AIN STEIN and It works for me, though Uni, Tombow, Rotring, etc are great too.Many people would reccomend buying from JetPens, but there prices are marked up as opposed to elsewhere. Rather this entire connector piece is plastic that is epoxied into the barrel. I might say the rapid pro is better balanced as well.
This is not generally an issue with the Rapid ProWhen you are actually writing, both pens are excellent. Rapid Pro is more reliable and functional, but its ugly, don't have the same appeal and quite frankly: Pentel Graphgear 1000 has more functions, and its way cheaper. I haven't used the rotring for a long enough sustained period of time to compare well.Also the grip on the 1000 is a fair bit wider than the rapid pro, and the 1000 is a fair bit lighter. The older two were made on the right time (end of the 80's - right before CAD era) when precision stationary instruments was in its golden age.
