However, this is not a sequel of To Kill a Mockingbird. That seemed in my humble (and originally southerner's) mind to be a contradiction in her character.

On one hand, I like Lee's easy going prose, her southern speech inflections, her strong-willed Jean Louise (Scout at 26 years old back home from NYC), and her nostalgic writing about the south. Thank you, Harper Lee, for showing the nitty gritty of life back in this time.Contrary to popular opinion, I enjoyed this book quite a bit.

I found her hero worship of Atticus a bit naive and a bit tedious but maybe that’s what Harper Lee intended. This story takes place in the same small town of Alabama as "To Kill a Mockingbird", with many of the same characters, only twenty years later. It opens ones eyes somewhat as to the politics - especially in the deep South of the time and not that long ago.

It starts out promisingly but is very disappointing.

When I started reading I thought the book was going to be about Jean Louise leaving Maycombe County permanently behind because of the parochialism of Hank her expected partner and Jem replacement.

Absolutely shouldnt have been published. Here is an unforgettable novel of wisdom, humanity, passion, humor, and effortless precision—a profoundly affecting work of art that is both wonderfully evocative of another era and relevant to our own times.

On Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird (Cliffs Notes) Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Frankly this book destroyed my love for To Kill A Mockingbird.

However, when, in Watchman, Scout recalls her childhood it works a lot better.

Sometimes turning your back isn’t the answer. I read Harper's Lee's best seller "To Kill A Mockingbird" for CSE many years ago so I was anxious to read "Go Set A Watchman". I loved To Kill A Mockingbird. I have lost my love for these characters and indeed cant watch the movie anymore or reread the book.

I liked the ending, but the book overall is frustrating and lacks editing.

IMO, there are roughly 25 pages that get 5***** and most of the rest is 2** at best. I enjoyed To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Atticus Finch, the embodiment of decency, brought to life in I am going to write a full review I think but oh this is not a novel and it was not ready for public consumption. Prime members enjoy FREE Delivery and exclusive access to music, movies, TV shows, original audio series, and Kindle books.

There is no such thing as a collective conscious.” The best thing I can say about Go Set a Watchman is that no one will ever accuse it of being written by Truman Capote. Written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman imparts a fuller, richer understanding and appreciation of Harper Lee.

Ms. I read many frontal attacks on this book here on Goodreads and am a bit "partagé" as we say in French. This is NOT a sequel of "To Kill a Mockingbird".

We meet Scout as a young adult and I was pleased to find her develop much as one would expect.

It is about INJUSTICE and stuff. So much so it's a standard school curriculum book.So we all felt that praise was due to Atticus in Mockingbird because he defended a black kid accused of rape, unsuccessfully.

I'd recommend this as an essential read. Having read 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' I felt the need to read this as a followup of the story almost 20 years on. Thought it would be better not to compare these two books, a first draft is not a prequel or a sequel.
