a "hands-off" approach to the restoration and re-editing of the sat down to record a new audio commentary, and it is also essential listening areas, even with the old effects scenes. Superman fans I have and will always say that the best comic book movie ever made was 1978's Superman: The Movie and of course it got several sequels but what makes this one standout is that there are two versions of Superman 2. which will make you go crazy if you haven't seen Lester's version.
It honors the legend and offers a refreshing take on our first encounter with a super flying hero. Was it a lost masterpiece? The evolution of the Lois/Superman romance is less well-developed (one of the strengths of the original Superman II) and the ending was particularly unsatisfying. This HD DVD release is really rather excellent -- as good of a transfer the three-arch villains (led by the excellent Terence Stamp as Zod), who spend most of the movie wreaking Other then that, the movie was in my opinion not as good as the Richard Lester version. However, the Brando/Reeve scenes, almost by themselves, were worth the viewing (especially the second one), and it would have been nice if these scenes could have found their way into the original cut.

to be re-recorded, but the end result is almost seamless. So here we have at least a glimpse of what is clearly a better vision and superior film to Fleischers. While it's entirely possible that no movie could compete with the finished perfect version each of us has imagined over the years it really should have been a thrill to finally see this project. On the commentary, Donner came across as still being very bitter, and he didn't give Lester any credit at all for what were some great scenes that improved the movie no end compared to Donner's. Lois lane jumping out the window was silly, and some of the action fight scenes in metropolis were dreadful. It's a pity that the Salkinds, who deserved to go bankrupt, couldn't have left Donner alone.
the wealth of behind-the-scenes footage makes for a fascinating watch. I've been a Superman fan since I was a little boy, and own all the movies.
II' remains an impossibility, kudos to Warner for even attempting such a crazy love story -- if only to facilitate more sequels, as Donner suggests -- was One of my favorite lines from Lester's version is completely excised from Donner's version: "General, would you care to step outside?" It's been somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty years since the last time I saw the theatrical version of Superman II, but after doing a bit of reading I think I have a pretty strong grasp of the differences between the two films.
