Tangible, on-the-ground projects like the Sacred Heart Church parking lot retofit demonstrate the value of green infrastructure, which is crucial to building support for this work across the city of Detroit. Through the collaboration of that advisory group and the City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, the project grew into the Detroit Stormwater Hub – a collective effort to share green stormwater infrastructure information.The Detroit Stormwater Hub launched in October of 2019.

The Nature Conservancy is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization (tax identification number 53-0242652) under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.

In addition to serving as a community resource, the Detroit Stormwater Hub also fills an important need for developing quantitative metrics and science-based tools around green stormwater infrastructure. The Detroit Stormwater Hub is comprised of two main elements:1.

Use it to explore GSI examples throughout the city. It includes a map of over 150 private and public projects, educational resources, success stories, and tools to support GSI.

Alongside Eastern Market Corporation, we are developing a model for urban revitalization in Detroit that reduces stormwater management costs and increases green spaces for city residents. The Detroit Stormwater Hub is an online resource that maps Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) projects across the city. Global sites represent either regional branches of The Nature Conservancy or local affiliates of The Nature Conservancy that are separate entities. Detroit Stormwater Hub The Nature Conservancy and the Detroit Water and Sewage Department (DWSD) led efforts to design, create, and launch the Detroit Stormwater Hub. Collecting this data in a centralized hub makes it easier to track city-wide progress and provides important metrics for refining the design and installation of future projects.In 2016, a clear need arose for a tool to help Detroit property owners and organizations to understand, collaborate on, and ultimately track the progress of green stormwater infrastructure efforts city-wide.With the generous support of The Erb Family Foundation, TNC spearheaded the development of a city-wide knowledgebase to share resources and facilitate collaboration between the City of Detroit and the community it serves.During the initial phase of this project, an advisory group of local organizations convened for a series of conversations about what was needed to build support and facilitate collaboration around green stormwater infrastructure in Detroit.

The Detroit Stormwater Hub provides a place to share Green Stormwater Infrastructure projects, access resources and learn from one another.
