Okay, hats off to Ms. Jae, she can write an interesting and authentic seeming historical novel set in the early 1900's. Kate Winthrop comes from a wealthy San Francisco family. If someone is shaken to the core or shocked to the core, they are extremely shaken or shocked. They are drawn to each other and begin a friendship which slowly becomes much more. On the other hand a young sicilian woman trying to make money, to send home, ending up working for the young lady's family as a maid. I love the supporting cast, Kate's parents as well as the lady's maid, Biddy offered a nice contrast to the main characters and of course, Dr. Lucy Hamilton Sharp.
